“Why Dive Team?”
It is great to learn some really cool dives with your friends, but there are some other very important reasons: Your child will learn how to be safe going off the diving board Dive Team gives your child the life-skill of confidence. Diving is a great high school team sport, so prepare them now for that option. But most importantly, it is just fun for families to be part of the St Ives Dive Team! “Is it safe?” The coaches teach children how to be safe on the diving board. No matter what age they begin, they all start with the basic, building blocks of diving. These elements are taught on dry-land/poolside before trying them on the diving board. “Do I have to choose between Swim Team and Dive Team?” No! Many of our divers are also on swim team, so most practices and all meets are planned without overlap. “I hate hectic mornings!” It is summer, so relax! Dive practices are held in late afternoon and early evening based upon your child’s age and skill level. And dive meets are very low-keyed, needing only a handful of parents to help add scores and write ribbons. Your child may want to stay for the entire meet to watch the other divers, but children dive by age group, so you only need to be present during the time your age group is diving. “Is it expensive?” The registration fee is $100, and this includes a Dive Team t-shirt, practice meet pizza party, end-of-season team party, gift and trophy, and contribution towards the Head Coach and Assistant Coach thank you gifts. You may also join on a trial basis, attending the first few weeks of practices before making the decision to join the team. If your child decides not to participate by May 16, you will only be charged $13 for the team t-shirt that you will receive. “My son won’t wear one of those skimpy bathing suits!” All kids have their own sense of style. The coaches appreciate this. Our divers can choose to dive in any appropriate pool attire with the only exception being girls should wear a one-piece swimsuit. “OK, I’m excited about this! How do we register?” Registration will be held March 16 and April 13, 5:30-7:30pm, during Family Night at the St Ives clubhouse. At this time, we will have sample t-shirts and other spirit wear items for sizing and also an opportunity to buy a team suit (optional). If you have questions, contact Amy Price ~ [email protected]. If you can’t make it to the club on those nights, download a registration form and then drop the completed form off at the clubhouse’s front desk. Thank you for taking the time to consider Dive Team, and we look forward to seeing you soon! |
